Magazine Cover Draft 2

Here I have begun to develop the magazine cover further. I have changed the colour of the main coverline and masthead to make them look more vibrant and eyecatching along with the white, against the background, as the blue/purple colour blended in more. It also matches the colour of her lipstick which ties eveyrthing in together nicely. I have also added a puff/plug as this is a common feature of a magazine. I have started to add coverlines, such as the one shown '12-Page Gig Explosion.' This will appeal to the target audience as the numbers suggest they are getting more for their money, but also as it is a 'gig explosion,' it sounds exciting and appealing.

I have used the colour picker tool to select the colour from her lips into the swatches section (as shown) to ensure that the shade of red matched . This way eveything ties in together nicely. I have also used the circle drawing tool to create a puff/plug, on which I have placed text and rotated it, to give the appearance of a sticker, suggesting there is added extras in the magazine. Similarly, I used the rectangle drawing tool to draw tiny boxes which I have used as bullet points.

Magazine Cover Draft

This week I have started to create my front cover. I have chosen a 'striking' image, in which the model is making eye contact with the audience. She also looks quite simplistic, but also quite made up which suits the theme of my magazine. The colour scheme I have chosen goes well with the models clothing. I have used Q magazine as inspiration for my magazine, using a similar layout as many of their popular covers. This includes the name of the artist larger than any other coverline on the magazine, in the same colour as the masthead. This therefore links together well, and create a 'theme' for the front cover. Underneath this coverline is a pull quote from the interview with the artist, which entices the audience to buy the magazine and read the article.  I have also created a banner running along the top of the cover including another coverline of a feature in the magazine. The barcode fits nicely to the right of the model's head, with the masthead to the left.

The above image shows the cover being made in InDesign. I have used seperate boxes for each piece of text to make it easier to move around the individual parts, but also to colour them differently and change the font type. I used the swatches tool to find a colour that stood out against the background but also one that matched it too. I have drawn a box for the masthead to be placed on, as this frames it nicely - just like Q magazines masthead - and makes it stands out.

DIARY POST

This week, I am very certain on how I want my magazine cover to turn out, as this is what I am going to produce first. I feel I have gathered enough reserach, and have all the resources I need to create a strong magazine cover that will appeal to my target audience. I have decided on the colour scheme, which image I feel is strongest, and have planned the layout.
I will decide on fonts and sizes of fonts whislt making the magazine, as this way I will be able to ensure that everything is in proportion.
